‘Flood Recovery’
Emergency Recovery Victoria
Emergency Recovery Victoria, a state government agency, commissioned us to create a flexible organisation-wide illustration system as well as multiple explainer videos, informing the public of the help they could receive after an emergency.
The project came with some specific constraints: a brand with little existing visual direction, the need for the illustration style to be easily replicable, as well as to be understandable by those with limited English.
All characters were based simplified geometric shapes which created a simple, but distinctly stylised illustration aesthetic. It was also easy to replicate. A colour palette was defined, and simple rules were created to guide designers how best to create future assets.
By simplifying objects down to their core components, using outlines and purposeful compositions, we were able to guide the viewer towards the most important pieces of information.

“Will is a joy to work with. His excellent project management skills meant our work ran smoothly with great communication. He understands tone and audience intuitively, which meant I could trust him to apply his expertise without onerous oversight or be concerned about the finished product.
He was very responsive to feedback on drafts and always turned my vague questions into a great product. It’s a testament to his creativity and problem solving skills!
We had explainer videos translated into multiple languages and Will was able to make that process seamless for the translations too.
For a phenomenal product made by someone you can trust, I highly recommend Will.”
